Pipestone Canyon Ranch | A Perfect Mix of Nature and Convenience on the Edge of the Cascades

Just on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains in Washington State, the Pipestone Canyon Ranch wedding venue is tucked among the rolling hills of the Methow Valley. Surrounded by gorgeous hiking trails, stunning views, and plenty of opportunities for adventure, Pipestone Canyon Ranch is the perfect wedding venue for a couple that is looking for those out-in-nature-vibes with the convenience of an established wedding venue.

We love a wedding out in the wild, but when the guest count is more than a handful of people, logistics can quickly become a source of stress. We love venues that bring the beauty of nature and a sense of adventure to the day without compromising on amenities, so you and your guests can focus on enjoying the day. Pipestone Canyon Ranch does just that and was the perfect backdrop for Steph and Derrick’s adventure wedding.

Getting Ready Moments

Late May in Washington’s Methow Valley is peak balsamroot season. The wild sunflower was blooming everywhere when we met Steph and Derrick on the morning of their Pipestone Canyon Ranch wedding. We started by joining them while they were getting ready in their hotel on the river in Twisp, appropriately named the Twisp River Suites. Be careful if you drive by there because you may think there won’t be deer crossing the road since it is in a town, but you would be wrong.

Steph and Derrick got dressed in their wedding clothes; they took turns being out in the main part of the suite (where the mimosas were, wink, wink) and hiding in rooms so they wouldn’t see each other before their first look. Once Derrick was ready, he and the guys headed to the venue, Pipestone Canyon Ranch, for some last-minute preparations. Then, we all met in a nearby balsamroot field for their first look.

First Look in the Balsamroot Field

Balsamroot flowers are one of Steph’s favorites, so it made perfect sense that Steph and Derrick chose to spend their first moments they saw each other in their wedding clothes in a beautiful field of balsamroot flowers. The cute little wild sunflower was blooming all around us when we arrived at the yellow field of flowers tucked among the rolling hills.

Tali and I had spent the day before doing some in-person location scouting to find a convenient spot with as many flowers as possible. When we stumbled upon this little piece of paradise tucked away with gorgeous mountain views and yellow flowers as far as the eye could see, we knew it was absolutely perfect.

Derrick and I arrived first and headed up over the hill while Steph and Tali pulled up moments later. After a sweet first look in the field, Steph and Derrick shared their vows that they had decided to do privately before the ceremony. They concluded with a picnic, and then their drivers, Caitlin and Derek (different spelling) whisked them back to Pipestone Canyon Ranch for the wedding ceremony.

Wedding at Pipestone Canyon Ranch

After we all arrived at the ranch, we started the celebration with some family photos to capture the special memories of everyone who had come to celebrate S and D. Steph snuck off with her friends for some quick touch ups and then it was time for the ceremony to begin! S and D had a lovely ceremony surrounded by family and friends, with talented friends jumping in to lend their skills as musicians and officiant for the ceremony with a personal touch that brought tears and laughs.

Following the wedding ceremony, we had a great taco truck dinner (aren’t they always!?). Sunset was approaching, so we whisked S and D and their baby boy, along with a couple of friends, up the hill located at the ranch for some sunset portraits. S and D ended the night on the dance floor while a few of us tried to do our best to reduce the amount of the amazing cake that would need to be packaged up at the end of the night. There were three flavors of cake for the wedding reception made by Steph’s friend, Siobhan, and Tali and I had to be sure to try them all multiple times to determine which was best. Matcha raspberry, lemon lavender, and chocolate stout – it was a tough decision, but I have a soft spot for Washington-grown lavender. Hands down some of the best wedding cake we’ve had!

The night wrapped up with dancing and celebrations long after the sun had set. A perfect celebration for the sweetest couple, filled with love, adventure, and friendship.
