Our fall engagement session with Gabi and Turner was about as fun as it gets! Tali and I had an amazing day shooting with Gabi and Turner at Interstate State Park fall engagement photos on the Minnesota-Wisconsin border. The fall colors were just starting to approach peak, providing a lovely background tied in with the interesting rock formations this park is known for. This was my first time accompanying Tali on an adventure session, and it was definitely more fun to experience the excitement with her than to hear about it later.

The evening started with photos on some old, stone steps not too far from the parking lot. Gabi and Turner brought a few outfits each. The first outfit that we shot in was their matching college apparel from where they met. We encourage all the couples we work with to let us know anything they would like to have in their photo that is special to them. It could be clothes to represent where you met, a prop reminding you of your first date, or even a cool pose you saw on Instagram or Pinterest. Gabi and Turner also wanted to do a special pose they had seen… Lucky for them there were plenty of large oak leaves to create the ring shot photo below!

We climbed over the rocks of the park while learning how the large potholes formed on the Mississippi River (from the fast streams swirling sediment around during the end of the last ice age… in case you were curious). We even saw the deepest pothole ever discovered in the world. Although, there may even be deeper ones in the park that were never uncovered.

The end of the session came with a sunset over the river, the water beautifully reflecting the golden hues of the sky and surrounding foliage. After a fun evening of adventure, we all agreed that we’d have to go back someday in the future to explore the rest of the park.

Fall is one of the best times of year to elope in Minnesota. The fall colors turn every view into a stunning backdrop. A couple embrace against the rocky backdrop of Interstate State Park in Taylors Falls, MN.
