Tanner and Allison's Spear-O-Wigwam Mountain Resort Wedding

Where to even start with this epic adventure!?!

Tanner and Allison’s wedding at Spear-O-Wigwam Guest Ranch was a three day adventure with friends and family joining from all over to celebrate their marriage and enjoy the wilderness of Wyoming. The long weekend on the guest ranch was the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure with the perfect backdrop for a wedding.

The Welcome Dinner at Spear-O-Wigwam

After everyone checked-in and found their cabins, the crew headed down to the reservoir for a tailgate style grill out, a bit of swimming, and even some paddleboarding. The groom and his crew kept the grill going while everyone enjoyed a beautiful sunset over the Park Reservoir, just a short walk from Spear-O-Wigwam. It was the perfect way to kick off the celebration weekend!

Getting Ready in the Spear-O-Wigwam Cabins

The day of the wedding started with the ringing of the breakfast bell, signaling that the staff at Spear-O-Wigwam had a hot breakfast ready to go for the guests in the main lodge. Friends and family gathered around the large wooden table to start the day with a shared meal. Then, as one does when attending a wedding at a ranch, most of the wedding guests headed down to the stables to meet the wrangler and go on a horseback ride. Bob was the most incredible guide for the riding, instantly learning everyone’s names, pairing them up with horses, and making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable for the adventure. An absolute legend.

I am pretty sure the time the groomsmen spent getting ready consisted of more diesel mechanic work than anything else, but the oil was (mostly lol) scrubbed from their hands before the ceremony and the bunch cleaned up well, so I’m not complaining! Plus, after preparing the welcome dinner the night before, the guys showed that their cooking skills weren’t a fluke with delicious lunch spread for the whole crew!

The bride and bridesmaids spent the morning in the cabins getting ready. Cenzi made the trip into the mountains to help out with hair and makeup for the day, pulling off some stunning soft glam looks. Allison also had the sweetest surprise for her bridesmaids and put together a full DIY cowboy hat bar! She had ribbons, lace, charms, and even beaded initials for each of the bridesmaids to decorate their own hat. They all turned out stunning and were such a fun party gift for the crew.

First Look by the Pond

Tanner and Allison decided to do a first look before their ceremony so they could spend more time together on their wedding day and keep the logistics a little easier for the ceremony. They shared the sweetest first look moment on their wedding day by the pond on the Spear-O-Wigwam property, just outside of the beautiful Little Bighorn Cabin. We snuck in a couple of portraits of the two of them before jumping back into preparations for their ceremony.

Wedding Ceremony at Spear-O-Wigwam

Before long, it was time for the main event!! The crew at Spear-O-Wigwam really went above and beyond to make this wedding special, tacking up one of their most stunning horses for Tanner to ride down the aisle to his wedding. It was the ultimate cowboy wedding moment and one of the coolest wedding entrances we have ever seen. (The staff also kept the horse nearby the whole ceremony so we could take some photos with it afterwards. Rockstars!)

The ceremony was on the bank of the Park Reservoir, with a stunning backdrop of pines, mountains, and the water. Dom performed the ceremony (officiant, photographer, and a groomsmen… what can this guy not do?!) and Tanner’s uncle led the couple through a Cord of Three Strands ceremony.

“Thank you both so much for being such a special part of our wedding! We are grateful not only for all of the beautiful photos, but for having you there with us for such an important weekend. Thank you so much for all of the time, effort, and love you put into everything. We love you both and can’t thank you enough!”

Western Wedding Celebration

After the ceremony, the wedding group headed back to the main lodge for a hearty home cooked meal to kick off a night of celebrations. The staff at Spear-O-Wigwam cooked up a delicious meal of pulled pork, brisket, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, corn bread, and salad and everyone ate until they were stuffed. As Spear-O-Wigwam says, it really was a “truly remote, off-the-grid dining experience in the heart of Wyoming.” One of the bridesmaids whipped up a Lavender Huckleberry spritz and honestly, I could have drank that all night! And, to top it all off, the sister-in-law of the bride and groom (The Cookie Goddess herself!!) made homemade cheesecake for their wedding cake. It was like I had died and gone to heaven. Still dreaming about that cheesecake, honestly.

The celebration didn’t end after dinner though, after sharing their first dance, Tanner and Allison kicked off the party with banging karaoke! The rest of the night was filled with (some actually super impressive) singing, plenty of dancing, and so much fun. Even the staff joined in the celebration rocking some karaoke tunes and tearing up the dance floor. The party just kept going!

Breakfast and a Trail Ride

The next morning started with a little later than typical breakfast bell and another hearty Spear-O-Wigwam breakfast. Some of the crew had to say their goodbyes after breakfast, but those who were able to stick around decided to head out on another Spear-O-Wigwam horseback ride, this time with the bride and groom. The ride was a stunning trail through the forest, around the reservoir, and out to some incredible mountain views. Truly a perfect Wyoming trail ride and such a fun wedding experience.

A Wyoming Wedding Sunset

After saying goodbye to Spear-O-Wigwam, we set off on one last adventure with Tanner and Allison to capture some Wyoming sunset wedding portraits. We took them to one of our favorite places in the Bighorn National Forest to soak in the sunset on their first full day married before they had to start their journey back home. As we were making the drive, I was a bit worried that the wildfire smoke that was rolling in would obscure our view of the mountains, but my worries turned out to be in vain as it ended up giving us a stunning hazy sunset with the most unreal colors. A quiet sunset just the two of them up in the mountains was the perfect end to an incredible wedding adventure.

Weddings at Spear-O-Wigwam Guest Ranch

Weddings with guests at Spear-O-Wigwam are required to book the entire Spear-O-Wigwam mountain resort for the celebration. (Although eloping couples are welcome to book a cabin just the two of them if they don’t have any guests, however, other resort guests will be on the property.) When you book the whole resort, you get both a unique venue for your wedding as well as cabins and tipis as lodging for your guests.

For your wedding at Spear-O-Wigwam, there are additional options to rent chairs if you’d like to have them setup for your ceremony. The main lodge has 40 heavier wood chairs, three 8’ long dinning tables, and 2 round tables that are included in the package. There are also options to add various meals to your package so that you and your guests don’t have to worry about preparing your own meals. Plus, breakfast is included with your stay!

Tanner and Allison’s Spear-O-Wigwam Wedding Experience

Tanner and Allison had a great time at Spear-O-Wigwam for their wedding. The staff was fun and helpful and helped make the whole thing a magical experience. They were generally very accommodating and went above and beyond to try to make everything special. (Extra shout out to Bob, who was truly top notch!) They did have a few small hiccups they wanted us to share.

The guests staying in the Bear’s Den cabin (which sleeps 8 people) had an encounter with a bat in their cabin. When this was brought up after the first night of the stay, it became clear that the owners knew about the bats in the cabin and rented it anyway. The guests moved out of the cabin and found lodging elsewhere as it was not safe to stay in the cabin, but no refund was offered.
